Self-Defense with Millicent and Christina
Girls with Grit is proud to have these two amazing women teaching self-defense in our youth trafficking prevention programs.

At Girls with Grit our facilitators work hard to provide information and resources to arm our participants with knowledge of how to protect themselves agains traffickers. At GwG we know that knowledge can only go so. Unfortunately, it is possible for anyone to find themselves in a dangerous situation, even if they know how to avoid it. For this reason, we reached out to two Krav Maga (a form of self-defense) instructors in the Austin area and asked them to help teach a self-defense module to our GwG participants. Millicent and Christina have been teaching practical skills in the fourth module of our five module prevention programs.
"The goal of self defense is to go home safe. I believe the most important part of achieving this goal is situational awareness. Being cognitively aware of what is going on around you and learning to trust your senses and gut instinct can potentially save your life."

"If found in a bad situation, and a boundary has been crossed, we teach the girls to trigger an instant aggressive response to fight with everything; punch, kick, knee, elbow, claw, bite, scream, anything and everything with aggressive in order to ultimately get home safely."
Girls with Grit programs focus on preventing sex trafficking by providing our participants with tools that can keep them safe. We do this with self-esteem building, recognition of warning signs and red flags, practical knowledge, local and national resources for help, and now self-defense! We are so excited to have Christina and Millicent working with us! These two truly embody what it means to be Girls with Grit.
